About the Suhua Highway Improvement Project

The Suhua Highway Improvement Sections are divided into three sections, Section A from Su’ao to Dong’ao, Section B from Nan’ao to Heping, and Section C from Hechung to Taichingchui. The Suhua Highway Improvement sections has a total length of 38.8 kilometers, with 8 tunnels(24.6 kilometers), 13 bridges(8.6 kilometers), and plane roads(5.6 kilometers). The section from Su’ao to Dong’ao was officially opened to traffic in February 2018, and all three sections were opened to passenger vehicles, buses and non-regulated trucks in January 2021.
In addition to the improved sections, the existing roads will continue to pass through the section from Dong’ao to Nan'ao and the section from Heping to Hezhong.
After the Suhua Highway Improvement Sections were opened to traffic, the existing Provincial Highway No.9 was renamed to Provincial Highway No.9D, and was partially co-lined with the new Provincial Highway No.9.
